Community Support

Leave a message and we’ll ring you back within 12 hours

Since March 2020 we’ve built a network of over 135 residents who’ve committed to helping their neighbours. This network has supported over 600 residents in their homes with food shopping, prescriptions, petcare, check-ins and friendly phone calls. Approximately 1/5 of residents who helped each other out have remained in touch, many have become friends.

  • Phone-line and email for residents to contact
  • Strong involvement, funding and backing from Knaresborough Lions, Knaresborough Rotary and Churches in Knaresborough
  • Designated by North Yorkshire County Council as a Community Support Organisation
  • Receive referrals from Harrogate Borough Council, North Yorkshire Council, local organisations and residents
  • A network not a service – residents are matched to a neighbour who helps them on an ongoing basis
  • Every resident was asked to pass on advice on how they were managing to be shared with others
  • Supported thousands of vaccinations through volunteering at NHS Vaccination centres

Here’s what residents have said:

“Thank you for helping me out when I needed it, and best of all, you made me feel that I was worth something, you know, you took the time to listen, I’m glad I could pass on my tips on isolation to others.”

“Glad I could provide the pictures of my plants to inspire others, thank you for sorting out the shopping.”

“Hope the fly-fishing pictures were of use! Good to see I have some lovely neighbours who could help me, well done for setting this up, wonderful.”

“I now know my neighbours and they’re really nice! I delivered some shopping round to Jane the other day and we had a lovely chat.”

Connected+
Connected+ builds on Connected our community-based social prescribing offer where we connect residents to community groups where they can make friends and live a more fulfilling life. It’s key to one of our aims: for everyone in Knaresborough to have three good friends.

Connected+ is for families that find themselves struggling with poor mental health, insecure housing, financial difficulties and/or physical disabilities. We will spend time with the family and link them with an Advocate, a fellow resident who can be alongside them, and community groups they can join or who can help. The ultimate aim is for families to be able to contribute to Knaresborough life as we see people as needed not needy.

Connected+ has been developed with residents, schools and NYCC’s Early Help service. It uses a model of Severe Multiple Disadvantage.

Community Ring Round
100 residents receive a friendly phone call about every 10 days. This helps combat social isolation and loneliness, two different challenges faced by people during and before Covid. Ring Round is run by residents who have had to self-isolate. Residents are invited to take part in activities like a trip to Harlow Carr. These activities help build confidence and friendships.
